AHTC complete EHL Men KO16 line-up with Austrian title

AHTC have qualified for EHL Men for the first time since the 2012/13 season as they won the Austrian national championship last weekend, completing the line-up for the EHL Men’s KO16.

They assured their place in the EHL by reaching the Austrian final alongside regular league winners SV Arminen with a shoot-out victory on Saturday against Post SV while Arminen defeated HDI WAC.

In the decider, it was all gund blazing right from the start with AHTC racing into a 3-0 half-time lead. Martin Peters broke the deadlock with a deflection in the ninth minute and the Christoph Soldat added a penalty stroke three minutes later. And the third goal arrived via Adrian Fink just before the main break.

AHTC Laurenzo Rizzi retained that healthy lead with some big saves in the third quarter and they moved ever closer to the title when Peters countered for a 4-0 advantage.

Arminen got on the scoreboard with seven minutes to go when Patrick Schmidt scored and, two minutes later, he heightened thoughts of an unlikely comeback with a stroke.

But despite a couple of corners, Rizzi stood firm to earn AHTC the title, marking it a double for the club after their women also secured national victory on Sunday.
