MSZ-010A1 Theta Plus (2025)

TheMSZ-010A1 Theta Plus is a transformable mobile suitintroduced inMobile Suit Moon Gundam.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The culmination of the Theta Project, the Theta Plus was a flagship unit based on the data of the Type 009, Type 010, Type 013, as well as the Full Armor model. Making full use of its movable frame design, it was able to equip different units depending on the battlefield situation. Its specifications and ease of maintenance both surpass that of the MSZ-010S ZZ-GR.^[1]

Similar to the ZZ Gundam, it adopted a Core Block System with three components: Theta Top, Theta Base, and the FXA-07GB-3 Core Fighter (Theta Plus Model) at its core.^[2] The staff at Anaheim Electronics incorporated technology from the AMX-107 Bawoo, allowing simple instructions to be sent from the Core Fighter to the unmanned Theta Top and Theta Base to control them remotely, though this becomes difficult at long range under Minovsky particle dispersal.^[3] It was also able to transform into a G-Fortress mode, with mobility rivaling the Wave Rider and firepower and thrust rivaling the original G-Fortress. It is said that this form has the same fighting power as a squadron of mobile suits.^[1]

Weapons wise, it was equipped with a pair of head-mounted vulcan guns, an improved version of the Hyper Mega Cannon used by the FA-010A FAZZ, as well as various weapons in its backpack. Its backpack thrusters were also the most powerful among the Theta series.^[1]

Armaments[]

• Vulcan Gun

Mounted in the head, these shell firing weapons have high-rate of fire but little power and can't damage the armor of a mobile suit, though they can damage lightly armored areas such as the sensors. They are ideal for shooting down small, lightly armored targets such as missiles, attack vehicles, etc.

• Beam Saber

Two standard beam sabers stored in the backpack.

• Beam Cannon

Two beam cannons mounted in the backpack, they are the same type as the ones used by the Defenser b-Unit.

• Micro-Missile Launcher

Mounted on the backpack are two 21-tube missile launchers loaded with AMA-13S small missiles to counter I-Field equipped units.

• Hyper Mega Cannon

An improved version of the FAZZ's Hyper Mega Cannon. While its output of 79.8Mw remains unchanged, it incorporated some mechanisms from the beam smart gun. A disc radome was added, improving its accuracy.

Under the order of the Earth Federation Forces command in Lhasa, one unit was assigned to the Londo Bell ship Ra Gills, piloted by Lieutenant Saphira Gardner.In U.C.0092, it was reported to engage in battles with Neo Zeon Remnants. After losing its right arm due to AMA-103 Medussa's attacks, it was left in Moon Moon Colony.During Luce Krangel's full scale invasion toward Moon Moon,the guard captain of the colony, Rinato Licht, voluteered to pilot the suit to protect his tribe. It transplanted RMS-099 Rick Dias's right arm as a replacement.

Notes and Trivia[]

• The Theta Plus's Moon Gundam Mechanical Works entry stated that it incorporated data from the "090 Type". Presumably, this was a typo, and was instead referring to the MSZ-009 Prototype ZZ Gundam.
  • The entry also compared its performance with the MSZ-010S ZZ-GR, which is strange, considering the latter was a makeshift repair of the ZZ Gundam, rather than a formally adopted mobile suit design.
• The Theta Plus's visor is distinctly reminiscent of the titular Ideon from Space Runaway Ideon.
