With the love and support of the actor's family, his helper of 30 years is now cancer-free.
There’s no doubt that domestic helpers are part of the family and no one embodies that more than Hongkong actor Tony Leung Ka-Fai and his family. The veteran star is said to be very close to his helper of 30 years, Delia, so much so that his daughter Nikkie wrote in an Instagram post that Delia is her dad’s “best friend”. But last November, Delia was diagnosed with stage 2b cervical cancer.
The news hit the family hard but they rallied together to support their helper during her battle with the Big C. And after months of treatment, which according to Nikkie included, going to the hospital every day for check-ups, switching to the keto diet, undergoing chemotherapy once a week and radiation five days a week, as well as internal radiation four times under full anesthesia , Delia is now — yay! — cancer free.
“My rock, my family, my dad’s best friend, my beautiful jie jie Delia is officially cancer free!!!” wrote Nikkie on IG. “Jie jie you are one the strongest women I know. Through everything you’ve been so strong, so positive, cheering everyone up. Early mornings at the hospital even on Christmas Day, New Years, your birthday...You never gave up, still with a big, big smile! I love you so much.”
It’s clear that Nikkie, 27, and her twin sister Chloe are very close to Delia, who has looked after the girls ever since they were babies. There's an undeniable bond between Delia and her employers, especially when it comes to Tony and his wife, Jiang Jia Nian. According to Nikkie, her parents would drive Delia to the hospital every morning without fail and to ensure everything goes smoothly”, they would wait around for Delia to finish her chemotherapy sessions before sending her home.
With so many awful and disturbing maid abuse cases happening in Singapore, we can’t help but wonder: Why can’t more people be like the Leungs?
Here’s Nikkie’s post:

Tony turned 61 on Feb 1 and his pals including Jacky Cheung, Carina Lau, Kenny Bee, Alex To and Cecilia Yip threw a surprise birthday party for the actor after one of Jacky’s concerts.
We thought the number on the cake read 19 but turns out, it's an upside down 61.
